Going High Tech To Fight An Ancient Problem – Rodents!

Rodents are an age-old problem. With mice and rats being such a persistent problem throughout human history, there have been many solutions developed to fight them. At Victor®, we have been developing tried-and-true methods like snap traps for over a century. These days we have many high-tech offerings alongside our traditional ones to help you get rid of rodents quickly and humanely.

Ultrasonic Repellents

Rodents have very keen hearing. So weaponizing sound against them is incredibly effective. Ultrasonic repellents, such as Victor® PestChaser® devices, utilize high-frequency sound waves to drive away mice and rats. To rodents, the sound is like nails on a chalkboard, but it’s completely inaudible to humans and non-rodent pets. PestChaser® emits many oscillations per second, creating a jackhammer-like sound that creates auditory distress for rodents in the area. The devices also use non-repetitive volume and frequency patterns so the critters can’t get used to the sound over time. Rodents will find the environment unpleasant and seek shelter elsewhere.

The devices are very simple. Simply plug them into an AC outlet and let PestChaser® do the work for you. Each device features a light to let you know it’s working. On our latest models, the light is soft but substantial enough to double as a nightlight as well. If plug space is an issue, we even offer a PestChaser® with an extra outlet built right in!

Be sure to plug the unit into an outlet that is open to the rest of the room, not behind furniture where the sound waves may be blocked. High-frequency soundwaves cannot travel through walls or solid objects. In a room with mostly hard surfaces, like a kitchen, ultrasound will "bounce" around giving coverage that is more effective. The ideal placement would be one that allows the sound waves to cross in front of an entranceway.

Electronic Traps

Traps are the first thing most people think of in their line of defense against rodents. That’s why we’ve upgraded to offer electronic traps for rats and mice. We even offer electronic solutions that can be used outdoors in any weather! These powerful devices use advanced smart circuit technology to sense when a rodent enters the tunnel. Once inside, the circuit triggers a high-voltage shock, humanely killing the rodent. These innovative traps are effective at eliminating rodents, but they also boast other high-tech features to ensure ease of use for you.

When a catch is made, the trap’s built-in LED light will blink green. You’ll know when it’s time to empty your trap without having to check manually. Plus, the convenient LED light function will not only notify you of a catch, but it will also alert you when the trap’s battery is running low by flashing red. For your peace of mind, the trap’s built-in safety switch automatically deactivates the trap when opened.

The Victor® Multi-Kill™ Electronic Mouse Trap boasts many of the same great features as our other electronic traps, while also offering the added benefits of being a multi-catch trap with a two-way entry tunnel. Needing to constantly empty and reset traps can be a pain when you have a persistent mouse problem. After a kill, the Shock N’ Drop Chamber™ rotates automatically to deposit the dead mouse in the collection drawer, and then resets itself for the next mouse. The trap can hold up to 10 dead mice per setting, eliminating the need to empty the trap after every kill.

Wi-Fi Enabled Traps

Last, but certainly not least, on our list of high-tech rodent solutions is Smart-Kill™. It's the perfect addition to your smart home! These traps take our other electronic traps up a notch by adding Wi-Fi-enabled notifications. Just because you have a mouse problem, it doesn’t mean mice should constantly be at the forefront of your mind.

Smart-Kill™ eliminates the hassle of manually checking your traps. These innovative electronic traps pair with a free app to send notifications to your mobile device when there’s been a catch. It’s the perfect device for people with multiple traps across a variety of rooms or indoor locations.

The convenient app will also keep track of the number of kills over each trap’s lifetime, as well as monitoring battery life. Plus, it’s quick and easy to set up and even allows you to give each of your traps a unique name so you know exactly which of your traps has made a kill. We live in a connected world, and thanks to Smart-Kill™, now your traps can, too.
